Swedish telco giant Telia has announced plans to cut around 900 jobs by the end of the year

The move comes as part of the company’s wider cost-cutting measures aimed at saving SEK 1 billion ($100 million) in annual gross savings.

The job losses will impact all Telia’s markets, with 260 jobs cut in Sweden, 280 in Finland, 150 in Norway, 110 in Lithuania, and 100 in Estonia. All cuts will be confirmed by the end of the year.

In addition to the shrinking headcount, the company will also be restructuring focussing on localisation, with 220 positions – mainly from its central Technology unit – being relocated to its dedicated country units.

The company was reported as having 14,100 employees at the start of this month across Sweden, Finland, Norway, Estonia, and Lithuania.

“We must always become even simpler, faster and more efficient in everything we do. We want to empower our countries more, get the utmost from our common Technology unit and other Group Functions, and sharpen Telia’s edge in a very competitive market. Crucially, we want to continue investing in great products and experiences for our customers,” said Telia President and CEO, Patrik Hofbauer.

“We are committed to constant improvement, and this proposed next step is made from a position of strength. We recognise it will involve difficult decisions and will require support for all our people. We believe that Telia can perform even better, and we see an opportunity to become a leading European telco.”

The restructuring is expected to result in charges of around SEK 600 million ($60 million) in Q4 2026, with the cash flow impact expected to be felt into 2027.

Telia has been downsizing in recent years, first announcing a major restructuring in December 2024 cutting 3,000 roles. This was followed up at the start of this year with 600 further cuts, albeit with 150 new positions to be created in ‘growth areas’.
